«Sacred dances» at the Almaty Theatre

Almaty Theatre presents the premiere of the ballet triptych «Sacred Dances» – an event not to be missed. Choreographer Mukaram Avakhri and the soloists of Astana Ballet delve into the theme of the spiritual connection across ages.

The first part, «The Wedding» set to Igor Stravinsky's music, unveils the hidden thoughts and emotions of newlyweds, transforming a wedding from mere celebration into a profound ritual. This year marks the 101st anniversary of Stravinsky's ballet «The Wedding» and we once again explore the depths of its messages and revelations.

The second part, «QASH» contemplates the notion that culture does not fit within predefined boundaries; it is always in motion. The histories of peoples are not written once and for all but are an eternal improvisation, where each moment is imbued with meaning. This segment features the composition «Le Retour de Molla Nasr’din» by Chemirani and vocal performance by Mushtari Islamova.

The third part, «Rukh» set to music by Abylay Abilkassymuly, the group Bugarabu, and vocals by Venera Urazbekova, transports you to an ancient world. Here, you will feel the spirit of the ancient Scythians, their connection to the sun, wind, and sky, and experience how we all merge into a single flow, gaining strength and power.

Through dance, there is a journey inward, prompting the author’s message to seek answers about who we are and why we are here. Incredible musical rhythms, expressive costumes, and the talent of the Astana Ballet's artists will create an atmosphere that allows the audience to immerse themselves in the sacred world of dance.
