Is it possible that the beautiful Galima, the pride of the village, fell in love with an ordinary village boy Zakir? The reactionary village people are outraged: the heroes were caught in the middle of a conversation. «Does the Shariah allow a girl to communicate with a boy?» they ask Hazrat. What decision should the minister of faith make? To forgive Galima and Zakir means, according to the laws of faith, to lose authority in the eyes of his fellow villagers. He is obliged to stand guard over morality. The only thing left is to punish them.

What is the play «The Black-Faced» about today, when religious motives have taken a back seat and ordinary human vices have taken centre stage? It is all the fault of people who are able to justify immoral actions with religious postulates. The focus of the tragedy is human nature. And this is a timeless, eternal theme. Like life.

The play was staged under the grant of the Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan for the support of the most significant creative projects (2014).
