For classical music lovers, Astana Opera presents a series of concerts as part of the traditional Double-Reed Festival, dedicated to woodwind instruments with double reeds.

Woodwind instruments with a double-reed a sound-producing device consisting of two blades from a special type of reed include the oboe, English horn, bassoon and contrabassoon.

The first concert of the Double-Reed Festival is dedicated to the bassoon and music composed specifically for this instrument.

The concerts were initiated by principal musicians Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Damilya Makhpirova (oboe) and Asset Neldybayev (bassoon).

The programme will feature both the most virtuosic and popular pieces, as well as rarely performed musical compositions specifically written for the bassoon.

The project author, artistic director of the festival and conductor People’s Artist of Kazakhstan Abzal MUKHITDIN.
