Journey to the Emerald City (KATMK)

Journey to the Emerald City (KATMK)

Description

«The Wizard of Emerald City» - a fairy tale story by Alexander Melentievich Volkov, written in 1939, based on the fairy tale by Frank Baum «The Amazing Wizard of Oz» A girl Ellie from Kansas and her faithful dog Totoshka get to the Magic Land. A hurricane caused by the evil sorceress Gingema has carried the caravan house with Ellie and Totoshka through impassable deserts and mountains. The good sorceress Willina steered the van so that it landed right on Gingema's head and crushed her. Willina informs Ellie that she can be returned to Kansas by the great wizard Goodwin, who lives in the Emerald City. To return home, Ellie must help the three creatures fulfil their cherished wishes. Accompanied by the miraculously talking Totoshka, the girl sets off along the yellow brick road to the Emerald City. (Before leaving, Toto brings Ellie Gingema's silver slippers.) Along the way, Ellie meets Scarecrow Scarecrow, whose wish is to get a brain, Tin Man, who wants to get back his lost heart, and Cowardly Lion, who lacks the courage to become a true king of beasts. Together they go to the Emerald City to the wizard Goodwin, the Great and Terrible, to ask him to fulfil their wishes. After surviving many adventures and becoming friends in the process, they make it to the Emerald City. However, Goodwin agrees to fulfil their wishes on one condition: they must free the Violet Land from the power of the evil sorceress Bastinda. They succeed and the journey ends very well.
