The regional Philharmonic Society of Kostanay started its chronicle in 1944 when it was issued a decree to establish a permanent branch of the Kazakh Philharmonic Society named after Dzhambul. Since then, more than a dozen years have passed and, during this time, many significant events have appeared in the luggage of the Philharmonic.

The Soviet period.

Although the country was raging with war, the establishment of a Philharmonic in the city was an urgent need. The first performance was held on March 19, 1944, and it was prepared with the help of such prominent specialists as M. Koishibaev, Chinese composer Sin-Hai, E. Umurzakov, S. Zhakupov, K. Telemisov, K. Abenov, and many others. Immediately the high bar was taken, which is also supported by the next generations of philharmonic artists.

From 1970 to 1990 in the piggy bank of achievements of the Regional Philharmonic appeared prize-winning places in all-Union competitions, honorary certificates, and diplomas. Cultural and chef work done in the village was repeatedly noted.

During the perestroika, the Philharmonic Hall became a "home" for artists from disbanded cultural organizations. So, under its tutelage, there was a chorus and the eponymous dance ensemble "Kostanay Zori", and also a chorus of veterans. Despite difficulties, new groups began to appear: "Slavic Song", quartets "Dream" and "New Boys", "Tamasha".

The modern E. Umurzakov Philharmonic in Kostanai

It is still the main, dynamically developing, concert venue of the region.  It is the center of musical life, where the best works of domestic and foreign classics are performed.

Musicians and philharmonic performers actively participate in international and national contests, becoming their laureates and diploma holders. At present, the Kostanay Regional Philharmonic Society has 8 ensembles:

• Theatre of Satire and Humour "Masa";
• Slavonic Song" and "As well as Len" ensembles;
• The Dosstar group;
• Orchestras of Kazakh and Russian folk instruments;
• Dance Ensemble "Kostanay Zori";
• Chamber Orchestra.
